My husband is cruel, ruthless, and despicable.
I hate him with every cobweb of my being.
The but reason I oasis't killed him or tried to run away is because of the promise I made. I sold myself to salvage someone I loved...and this is the cost I have to pay.
I was sitting alone in a bar when the virtually handsome homo walked inside. Hitting blueish eyes, cheekbones as sharp as drinking glass, and a muscular body fit for a war. He was gorgeous. I couldn't accept my eyes off him. When he bought me a potable, I didn't say no. I'd been unfulfilled for and so long, and I wanted a real man for the night. My husband had his affairs then why couldn't I?
I noticed the peculiar ring on his correct hand, a diamond carved into a skull. If only I'd known what that meant, I would take known who this man was.
The Skull King.
A man more vicious and ruthless than my own married man.

Heroine is TSTL. Seriously. She has a boyfriend (whom she loves) and he was supposed to exist killed by her at present married man, so to safe the life of the boyfriend, Heroine agrees to become a willing and submissive wife for the cruel Hubby to exist. For all her life!
How did she even get to brand the bargain? Was she there when the human being wanted to kill her beau? How dumb can i be, to throw away her entire life? She has to accept sex activity with him. And he whores around. She isn't even certain if she has whatsoever diseases because of said husband. How would she bring children into this globe?
And this is the premise that is starting this book. Then bad! I thought it was a badass Heroine, who married a cruel man for her ain goals and is giving back as good equally she gets. But no, she'southward whiney and daydreaming almost the Hero and drowning in self-loathing.
The Hero was just a bad man. He doesn't deserve to be chosen a Hero. Sure he's nice plenty to the Heroine. Just but considering she's the perfect specimen and he enjoys having her in his bed. In that location's nothing gentle or prissy most him. He's the head of a crime organization. Information technology includes trafficking of women! He doesn't care because this gets expert money and he wouldn't give it up, even if he could. Just of course he become'south offended when theres a sixteen twelvemonth old daughter beingness auctioned off. He saves her, simply all the other women will live as slaves for wealthy men.
And he's a manwhore. He sleeps with women nearly every twenty-four hours, and information technology's always a different one. But he prefers to take paid sex. And so he can do any he wants without complaining form said women. Gross!
In that location'due south no plot in this story. Nothing happens. Heroine meets Hero, he's irresistible so they have secret sexual practice with each other. Heroine says information technology will exist the terminal fourth dimension, then crawls back to him. Repeat.
Hero always thinks nigh her and her body. Echo.
This whole book is simply sexual activity. And information technology ends with a bewilderment. Heroine is so naive and doesn't have a courage.
There was no chemistry betwixt them. No romance. Zip.
So I'm out.

Having said all that, i actually enjoyed the story (go figure!) - information technology was surprisingly better than the Buttons one i had read by the same author - the writing has definitely improved since and so.

Just like the same characters with new names and different crime profession, aforementioned attitude, same arrogance, same strong-simply-damsel-in-distress kinda heroines. Boringggg.
Afterwards reading the tyrant and as much as I dear I've read almost every Penelope volume there is to read from the Buttons serial to the Banker series and everything in between and while I dear her and her books and I'll still download everything she releases, the writing and the stories have actually become so repetitive and boring.
Just like the same characters with new names and different crime profession, same attitude, aforementioned airs, same strong-but-damsel-in-distress kinda heroines. Boringggg.
After reading the tyrant and as much every bit I loved it (considering Penelope Sky has put me under a spell) I was like accept a breeaakk...this is becoming too same old aforementioned old.
I wished these women were making these men quit the life of crime in real life so that we'd know that at to the lowest degree humanity was being saved but alas information technology's all make believe.
And at present we're back to the same thing again, I'k notwithstanding going to read the skull crusher and the skull ruler and whatsoever other thing Penelope releases next because I know she has a story in her head or about to be released for Case, (Cassini's blood brother) and Heath, (Balto'southward brother) and even Bates, (Cato'due south brother) and she's going to milk those ones too for 12 more books. Ugh.
And no matter how exhausted I am, I'm still going to download and read because I'1000 a sucker for pain.
The skull male monarch is typical crime lord meets woman except this fourth dimension she's married unknowing to him his enemy.
They start an affair. He gets lost in the pussy sauce. She's also dicknotized and so they can't quit each other.
When Balto discovers that she'southward married to his enemy who's basically pussy in his hands, he asks him to requite him what he owes and when his enemy and Cassini'southward hubby, Lucian refuses, he takes his wife! (nigh like crow took pearl from Pearl from Bones)
Cassini goes willingly thinking she's being rescued from a loveless marriage by her knight in shining armor just for Balto to start laying down rules of slavery on their style to his house. The end. (Did I add like Crow?)
Did I also add that Balto thinks he's the most powerful homo in Italy?
Penelope Sky is basically a one play tricks pony and as much equally information technology exhausts me, (Well no one'south forcing me to read) I too respect how she's milking our obsession with the Italian criminal offense lords and making usa root for and fall in beloved with men of the underworld.
If this was my offset Penelope Heaven book, I would have been leaping for joy and giving it 10 stars buutttt... since I know how it's going to end with Balto giving up with life of law-breaking for a normal life with the honey of his life Cassini, 3 stars is all I'k giving.

Warning: I know there are those who take a trigger over adultry so I wanted to make sure to point out adultry plays a major part in this book/series. Too, it's a night themed Italian crime family unit story so expect content consistent with that lifestyle. Consider yourself warned.
This story is addictive and one of the kind of stories that had me glued to my e-reader from kickoff to terminate. Seriously, if you're on the fence regarding this ane, catch the sample and read the prologue/first affiliate sample. Then tell me you didn't ane click information technology on the spot. The bar scene was down right sinful.
Belto & Cass. The devil and angel parallel in that the devil tempts the affections to sin and wins time and time once more. Was amazed my eastward reader didn't spontaneously combust multiple times during the course of reading this story.
Secondary characters. Express cast of characters that includes some proficient (snort equally who really could be considered good in an antihero crime family story), some bad, and others down right offensive. I won't proper noun names as this is a new release and thus upward to any potential reader to sleuth who fits which category.
My issues. The ending is a semi cliffhanger. More than a shock and awe .... to exist continued sort of affair. So not fair. I want The Skull Crusher that won't be released until May 7, 2019. I'm non revealing a spoiler if I point out the blurb for 'Skull Crusher' pretty much gives the cliffy away then don't read that blurb unless you know that.
I loved, adored, and can't express how much I am in volume reader sky over this story that takes place in Italy, the cadre home of crime family lure. Where the baddest of the bad reside and thrive.

Cassini is the beautiful, unhappy wife of an explosives dealer. She has two brothers who adore her, and they're just every bit unhappy about her matrimony as she is, though blessedly, her disgusting husband ignores her for the majority of their marriage, assuasive her some small-scale measure of liberty. Her days are usually spent by the pool with a volume, but sometimes her husband requires her to attend a few business dealings. It's at one of these meetings that she meets a human being named Balto.
Balto is gorgeous, big-headed, dangerous, and quickly becomes enamored with Cassini. Their allure and the benefit of her slight independence from her husband allow them to entangle in a steamy affair. They speedily become fond to each other, and neither Cassini or Balto can resist the chemistry that blazes betwixt them.
Merely Cassini doesn't realize that Balto and her married man have a history. A history involving a bargain gone bad and Balto, when he finally decides that the mystery of who Cassini really belongs to has gone on long enough, he makes a decision that will impact everything.
5 stars! Enjoy!

Poor Cassini, she is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Non a clue how this trilogy is going to end. Peradventure book two volition offer some clues. Disclaimer most book (and author): this covers some tough topics...sex/human being trafficking, abuse, law-breaking, violence, drugs. Penelope has written along these lines forever so it's expected from her. In fact, this book is the least "night" of any work of hers I've read. Now that's out the manner......Afterwards finishing the Banker series I couldn't wait to get my easily on this ane....I was then interested in the Skull Kings from the moment they were introduced to united states of america in the Buttons series. Penelope did not disappoint in this ane. I take read where others say information technology's the same repetitive story she continues to tell but I don't call back so! In a way all dark erotica follows a similar plot, but this 1 has a fresh spin on it.
Synopsis:
Cassini is a beautiful adult female trapped in a marriage she entered in club to save someone she loved. She's married to a unsafe man, merely he's unsafe not in the mode of guys like Crow (from Buttons). He'south a genius with explosives. This has made him a very rich man and he has enemies. Ane of his enemies is the leader of the Skull Kings, Balto. Balto is letting his revenge simmer and drag out, making it that much worse. He sees Cassini in a bar lonely unaware of who she is, and he finds her irrestible. He tin tell she isn't satisfied and leaves his card for her to call him, and after a while she does. Merely will he find out only who the married man she warned him about is? What will happen if he does? You have to read to discover out--and although it ends on a cliffhanger you nevertheless get some answers.
These two create some sexyyyy hot scenes together and I love that fifty-fifty though it is a no strings affair you tin can see on both sides what information technology's leading to.
Penelope is a master at writing the best anti-hero...these are men that y'all won't immediately dearest. You might never love them simply she writes them in a mode that yous likely can't resist it. They aren't expert guys and don't claim to be. They do some shady illegal things and unremarkably don't have much of a conscious or heart. That'due south what's so good about the story: we encounter these women come up in and thaw some of that out and make them love.
As for the heroine, normally I LOVE Penelope'south female person leads. They survive awful situations (ones most of usa wouldnt) and accept an uphill battle to get their happy ever after....all while refusing to play victim or whining about information technology. Honestly, Cassini is my least favorite of Penelope'southward girls, she comes off as helpless and is merely wallowing in her own self-pity...non taking any action to change her circumstances for the better. But despite this, I do think she's going to come into her own later in this series....i couldn't have a star away for this bc the overall story was just too good.
Most of Penelope Heaven fans have likely read this so if you are new to this author I say give this a shot---and if you are looking for more from her the Buttons series is my #i fav!

Love this book! This is my 1st volume I've read by this Author and I wasn't disappointed. This makes me desire to binge read all of Penelope Heaven's books. This was a very intense page turner.Cassini got herself into a difficult time. She signed herself upward for failure with a slimy guy named Lucian. She married this homo to salvage someone. She can't back out because she fabricated a deal, and information technology's not in her blood to not fulfill the promise to Lucian. She meets Balto and the sparks fly.
Once I establish out who she was trying to protect my eye really bankrupt for her. I'yard and so excited to read the second installment of this series.
...moreWe'll encounter where this story leads us, and I hope to fall in honey with this couple, but I'm not there
Penelope's worlds are filled with dark and dangerous men, and potent women. Both usually have a more tender side. I'g non totally sure how I feel nigh Balto or Cassini yet. And so far, their connection is just animalism and obsession. They still don't know a lot well-nigh one another, or seem to want to. Only there's a ton of sexual activity. And sneaking. And backroom deals with shady characters, non to mention secrets. We'll run into where this story leads us, and I hope to autumn in love with this couple, simply I'chiliad not at that place yet. Specially while the Skull Kings still run those awful auctions.
...moreFifty-fifty though I don't like reading stories with cheating, the fact that Cassini was blackmailed into marriage
OK granted it is THE Skull Male monarch simply afterwards 24 books (I can't remember if they are mentioned in the Scotch serial) nosotros finally get an inside look at the Skull Kings. Call up that Cane Barsetti was once a Skull King and that the Skull Kings helped save Crow Barsetti from Tristan in the Buttons serial. Merely don't worry, if you haven't read the other serial, information technology can be read as a standalone series.Even though I don't similar reading stories with cheating, the fact that Cassini was blackmailed into wedlock makes information technology a little easier for me to read. Penelope Sky also writes such fantastic stories that I cannot help but like the story.
Correct from the commencement with Balto and Lucian's kickoff coming together, the pecking order is ready and Balto shows what a freakin' bad ass he is. I really enjoyed all the dissimilar grapheme relationships in this story and how no one actually knows any of the others. The Lucian/Cassini/Balto triangle is transparent to the reader merely the characters are left in the dark and it does brand for a slap-up read, as the reader gets to know something before the characters practise. Balto reminds me of Griffin (Bones Jr. from the Lingerie serial - though Griffin is still my favorite anti-hero ever). There are a couple of surprises but I accept to admit that I really loved the ending with it'south little cliffhanger. The Lingerie and Banker series were closely paralleled to the Buttons series but this is something new. Definitely recommend reading this volume.
I received a copy from the author and wholeheartedly reviewed this volume. It's different and I couldn't put information technology down. Cheque out this great author.
...moreBalto is everything I beloved in an Alpha male. Balto is a night, heart-searching, and intense while
I discovered Penelope Sky with the 'Buttons and Lace' serial and fell admittedly in love with Italia, the characters, and the underworld they fight to steer clear from. Albeit failingly for these strong female characters that open up each book. I do admit I was very curious almost the Skull Kings and the world they run since their mention in Buttons and Lace. It excited me to find she wrote a series on them.Balto is everything I dear in an Alpha male. Balto is a dark, brooding, and intense while still capable of being a compassionate, respectable gentleman. Cassini is my favorite female character out of them all. She is the beginning to find herself amidst the underworld by choice. Her tale does not kickoff out being a stolen captive like all of the heroines in the preceding books to the serial. She is strong-minded, willful, savvy, and empathetic to a mistake.
She marries a narcissist flop maker of the underworld to relieve her boyfriends life. Or then she thought at the time. Tricked into the arrangement by her spineless coward boyfriend for his financial proceeds she makes the virtually of her new life. She meets Balto at a bar ane dark running an errand for her husband and the chemistry ignites so hot you feel the rut rise in your skin.
What starts every bit just a fun matter for them both becomes a way for Balto to avenge the Skull Male monarch'southward financial losses from a prior expose Cassini'due south husband foolishly pulled on them. I tin can't wait to run across where this new plan of Balto'southward takes them.

I beloved the world that our author Penelope Heaven has introduced us to in all of the series that i've read so far. Information technology's a dark world of illegal 'stuff' in the centre of Italy, but those that we should fear the most are the ones that we truly desire to love the almost besides. In this story – we get to learn more about a group that we heard a bit about in the Banker series. The Skull Kings accept their leader, and that is Balto – our leading man. A guy who'southward forced his style to the height of the nutrient chain, has control of the entire state and all illegal activity that goes on, and what he wants he gets. He's a man of his word, and when someone crosses that, he'due south out for blood.
That'due south where Cassini comes into play – considering she gave up her freedom to relieve someone that she thought was worth saving and in render, he betrayed her, and she was stuck in a marriage to a man who was so intolerable, that her day to day life was too much for her to survive.
Similar to the chemistry that we saw in the Banker, the heat between Balto and Cassini when their paths cross for the first time, information technology's explosive and it'due south just a matter of time before we see how it plays out for them.
There's so much tension throughout this story – nosotros see how badly Cassini wants to find happiness in her life but that comes at a toll, and without having to adventure everything and anybody one, she knows that the future is bleak. Balto on the other paw is across confident, feeling that he's untouchable that he's willing to take chances tranquility a bit to get what he wants. Lucien, Cassini's married man and the human being that crossed Balto in the worst fashion is at the cadre to anybody's unhappiness and has the ability to brand things better. still he's selfish and won't consider anything.
The way that this story plays out is that we see the button and pull of doing what's right by reputation v. living the life that everyone wants. The theme of being true to your word is really the bottom line factor – and we see what happens to those who keep their word and those who don't.
I feel similar in that location'due south a lot that we don't get into in this story, and that makes me wonder if we'll go more in the following installments or if at that place will exist spin off series. Case and Dirk, Cassini'due south brothers have their family business concern but they also have an hole-and-corner business as well. I'm curious nearly their stories and what that means to Cassini's future. We get teased but ntohing concrete.
We also meet Heath, Balto's identical twin, and he starts to play a bigger role in this book just we don't actually scratch the surface much more on this one.
Where we are left off is at a point where we were just well-nigh to sigh and relax, but that's non possible and liberty is impossible. I human being takes what belongs to some other when resolutions aren't made and that means that we run into hearts broken, relationships broken, and in that location'south a whole new smell of fear in the air.
Also, in true Penelope Sky form, it'southward not only fright in the air simply the scent of lust and sex. There's a chemical science between our main characters that's hot and they don't fifty-fifty try to contain it. Cassini knows what she wants, and owns it with her strength. Balto is a homo that doesn't apologize e'er, and when he sees that there'south an obstruction to go what he wants, he plows through.
I'one thousand curious to see how this plays out because i actually desire to see how hard and hateful Balto is but i desire something meliorate for Cassini. Lucien I tin do without honestly, so i'm excited to read on to see how this plays out

He's giving Lucian time to make the right decision.
Lucian forces Cassini to marry him. He blackmails her saying if she doesn't he would kill her then swain and dear of her life. To protect the man she loves Cassini matters herself and promises to obey and ally Lucian. She marries him against both of her brothers wishes. The marriage puts a strain on their relationship but they however dear each other and Cassini does spend time with family unit.
While Cassini willfully has sex with Lucian when he wants some she does so without passion. She's always dry and tin can't await for it to be over. This to some could exist borderline rape. Lucian is likewise unfaithful and has a lot off affairs. We don't read about them merely they are unsaid.
One day she's lone at a bar waiting for Lucian when she meets Balto. Balto has no inkling who she is or who she's married to. They have explosive chemical science. He knows she's married but he doesn't care. She knows sleeping with Balto is incorrect and dangerous but can't assistance herself. Both end up screwing similar bunnies multiple times. He becomes fastened and fond to her.
Eventually he learns who she is and who she's married to. He comes to collect the debt from Lucian of the ring or the explosives. Lucian rejects again so Balto takes/steals Cassini as punishment to Lucian.
There a fleck of involvement of Cassini brothers and Balto which Cassini is unaware of. Balto still doesn't know who her brothers are. Balto has a twin brother who recently got out off jail and is essentially living with him.
...more thanBack to Balto's character. The fact that he can become the entire book pining over Cassini and calling her baby and "my baby" and then at the end tell her "I didn't liberate you, I stole you." And was supposed to come up off as difficult and stoic was really stupid to me. His character just needs more than development. His words and deportment felt more amateur than bosslike. I feel as if Penelope tried hard to push his grapheme'southward badass reputation by telling the states who she wanted him to be instead of Balto showing us himself. He spent more time having sex activity than running a business. And Cassini...she was NOT the heroine female for me. Her trade was absolutely stupid and to keep going on nearly not existence able to break her word because it'due south all you have, was even more stupid. Information technology didn't make any sense whatsoever. I have to actually call up hard on whether I want to purchase the 2nd book or not. And I really hate proverb this because I do love Penelope Sky,
